No Surprises Act

On September 2021, a bill was passed that requires all health care professionals to provide a Good Faith Estimate to clients who are uninsured or not using insurance for their medical or mental health services. If you are seeking mental health services from a clinician like Josephine, learn more about this process below!

This change went into effect on January 1, 2022! Updates will be provided here!

You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical and mental health care will cost.

Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the expected charges for medical services, including psychotherapy services.

You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency healthcare services, including psychotherapy services.

You can ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule a service.

If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill. Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate.

For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises. You can find an example Good Faith Estimate HERE

What does this mean if I would like to work with one of the therapists at Ampaw Psychotherapy & Consulting?

The process of beginning therapy with Ampaw Psychotherapy will only have one major change. Josephine or any clinician representing Ampaw Psychotherapy and Consulting LLC(coming soon!) will ALWAYS send you a “Good Faith Estimate” to you before beginning mental health services together! If you would like to schedule a consultation and/or talk through this new change more with Josephine, use the button below to schedule a consultation!

What will I be asked for because of this change?

Ampaw Psychotherapy and Consulting LLC will be asking potential and continuing clients if they have insurance and would like to use insurance or not to cover services. As of January 2024, our therapists are only working with Medicaid. For commercial insurance, we work with Mentaya to help folks use their Out of Network (OON) benefits for therapy. To check if you have OON that can be used for therapy, please use THIS LINK to check. To learn more about the investment and other FAQs, please click the button below!
