Our Values

Our Values ground us and the work that we do together. Whether in therapy supervision, or consulting, it is important at Ampaw Psychotherapy and Consulting that our values align.

Ampaw Psychotherapy and Consulting strives to create a healing experience for individuals, couples, families, and professionals to build community with one another while recognizing the intersectional inequities of our world.

What does this mean?

It means that we, at Ampaw Psychotherapy and Consulting, we do things differently for our clients in Colorado…

Our clients come to us with so many hopes and dreams.

They envision who they want to become and how much it will change generations to come.

But, there’s a problem. They are tired of the status-quo: they’ve been pushing themselves beyond belief, trying every resource that didn’t take their lived experiences and identities in consideration. They want to build genuine community and connection with themselves and others.

When we start, we see all the strengths and wisdom they bring from their lived experiences and relationships and over time, they become the changemakers they’ve dreamed of being in their relationships and communities.

They are determined, but kind to themselves.

They bring people together to heal from the Traumatic experiences that try to keep us apart.

They make clear and aligned decisions about who they need and want to have in their lives, from romantic partners to family and friends.

We are grateful and honored to hold space for them and we would love to do that for you too.

No CommitmentBoth Partners WelcomeAccommodations Available

We start with a free 30 minute virtual consultation, together or separately, whatever feels right for your situation. This is not a commitment. It is a real conversation to understand where you are and whether we are the right fit for what you need.

"You don't have to have it figured out before you call. That's what this conversation is for."
Step 02
Understanding Your Relationship
Sessions 1 through 3Month 1
Your StoryStrengths BasedNo Judgment

In your first month together, we get to know you as a couple, your story, your strengths, and what brought you here. We honor what is working before we look at what is not. These early sessions are about understanding, not fixing.

"Every couple has strengths. We find them first, because that's what the work builds on."
Step 03
Your Treatment Plan
Completed by Session 3Month 1
Clear DirectionYour GoalsBuilt Together

By session 3, we complete your treatment plan together. This is your roadmap, shaped by your goals, your history, and the relationship you want to build. It gives the next 60 days clear direction and holds the vision for your work together.

"The relationship you want is specific to you. We don't impose a template. We help you name what you're building toward."
Step 04
Initial Interventions
Sessions 4 through 10Months 2 and 3
Evidence BasedAttachment HistoryCultural Context

With your plan in hand, we begin the active work. Using evidence based approaches, we move through the lived experiences and histories that created the current cycle, what shaped each of you before you ever met.

"The fight you keep having didn't start in your relationship. We trace it back, together."
Step 05
Practice and Depth Work
OngoingMonths 2 and 3
Communication ToolsGuided PracticeRoot Causes

The therapy room becomes a place to practice being in relationship, gaining tools, guidance, and the skills to hear each other more deeply. You practice here so you can show up differently out there.

"We give you a space to try, and to fail, and to try again, before it has to count."
Step 06
Treatment Plan Review
Day 90 · MilestoneTogether
Progress ReviewRenewed DirectionYour Next Chapter

At the 90 day mark, we pause together to review your treatment plan, what has shifted, what has deepened, and what comes next. This is a moment to celebrate real progress and reset with intention. For most couples, this is the beginning of a new chapter, not the end of the work.

"90 days gives you a foundation. What you build on it is yours, and we stay with you as long as you need."
The Bigger Picture
90 days is where the work begins,
not where it ends.

Real relational change takes time. The 90 day framework gives your work structure, clarity, and a shared direction. But healing cycles, rebuilding trust, and breaking generational patterns is a longer journey, and we walk it with you.

After Month 3
Continued Depth Work
Most couples leave the 90 day review with a renewed treatment plan and a clearer sense of what they are working toward. The sessions that follow go deeper, less introduction and more transformation.
Ongoing
Breaking Generational Cycles
The patterns that show up in your relationship were often formed long before you met. Unraveling them takes sustained, intentional work and the safety of a consistent therapeutic relationship to do it in.

At Your Own Pace
There is no fixed endpoint for meaningful growth. Some couples stay in active therapy for a season. Others return as life changes. We meet you where you are, at 90 days and beyond.

We begin with a free 30 minute virtual consultation, just you and your therapist. This is not a commitment. It is a real conversation about where you are and what you are carrying, so we can understand whether we are the right fit for what you need right now.

"You don't have to explain everything perfectly. Just showing up is enough to start."
Step 02
Getting to Know You
Sessions 1 through 3Month 1
Your StoryStrengths BasedNo Judgment

Your first month is about being seen. We take time to understand your full story, not just the presenting concern, but who you are, where you come from, and what shaped you. There is no rushing here. You set the pace.

"Healing begins when someone finally sees all of you and doesn't look away."

By session 3, we build your treatment plan together. This is not something that happens to you. It is a plan you help shape, grounded in your goals, your values, and what you want your life to feel like. You will always know where we are going and why.

"This is your plan. We build it with you, not for you."

With your roadmap in place, we begin the real work. Using evidence based, culturally grounded approaches, we explore the patterns, histories, and beliefs that are keeping you stuck. This is where insight starts becoming change.

"The patterns you are living now were once a way to survive. Together we figure out what you need instead."

Insight alone does not create change. This phase is about integrating what you are learning into your actual life, building new responses, testing new ways of being, and returning each week to reflect on what is working and what still needs tending.

"Therapy is not just about understanding yourself. It is about becoming someone you actually want to live as."

At 90 days we pause and take stock together, what has shifted, what has grown, and what still needs attention. We celebrate real progress and reset your plan with fresh intention. For most clients, this is where the work deepens, not where it ends.

"90 days gives you roots. What grows from here is yours."
The Bigger Picture
90 days is where the work begins,
not where it ends.

Personal growth is not linear and it does not have a deadline. The 90 day framework gives your healing structure and direction. What comes after is an ongoing relationship with yourself, and we are here for that too.

After Month 3
Deeper Self Understanding
Once the foundation is laid, sessions shift from introduction to transformation. You go from understanding your patterns to actively rewriting them, with your therapist holding the thread.

Healing Takes Time
Relational trauma, identity wounds, and generational patterns do not resolve in 90 days. Sustained therapeutic work is what creates lasting change, and you deserve the time it takes.

Every family has a system, roles, patterns, and histories that have been passed down often without anyone choosing them. Month 1 is about understanding how your family works, what each person carries, and what the family has been trying to protect. We listen to every voice in the room.

At 90 days we pause as a family and take stock together, what has shifted, what needs more time, and what you want to build next. This is a moment to honor how far you have come and reset with intention. For most families, this is where the real transformation begins.

"90 days plants the seeds. What grows from here belongs to all of you."
The Bigger Picture
90 days is where the work begins,
not where it ends.

Family systems took years to form. Healing them takes time, consistency, and a space where everyone feels safe enough to be honest. The 90 day framework gives you structure. The work that follows gives you a new way of being a family.

Building Community

Along with our values around mental health therapy, our values and approaches center about building community.

Why is building community so important? Because relationships whether it be with biological family, chosen family, friends, or partners ground our day to day experiences. The people around us play a role in our day to day lives and for me, tapping into who supports you is essential to our work together, whether in therapy or consulting.

Ampaw Psychotherapy and Consulting LLC acknowledges, honors, and recognizes the privilege of holding space that was stewarded by Indigenous communities. I currently am located on land that was stewarded by the Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes. The colonization and genocide of Native American people is why I am able to hold space for therapy and consulting today.

Ampaw Psychotherapy and Consulting also strives to support minoritized communities(e.g.:BIPOC, LGTBQIA+, etc.)who continually experience discrimination and oppression based on their identities and lived experiences through therapy, consulting, and through collaborating and financially supporting organizations who are in line with these values .

As an organization, we continue to strive beyond making a statement. It is important for us to be held accountable by the communities we serve. Through community building and our own learning, we work to reject harmful practices. The therapy interventions, consulting strategies, and community partnerships Ampaw Psychotherapy and Consulting utilizes center equity, humanity, and inclusion by acknowledging the power of language and understanding and creating accessibility.

We would love to talk to you about our work! Schedule a consultation with us!

Approaching Therapy

Our clinical orientation focuses on starting with getting to know the human in front of us. Whether It is starting from their lived experience and/or building trust in our relationship, It is important for us to center the many parts clients bring into therapy. This includes centering the intersectional identities clients hold and the ways that you show up. Taking an approach that includes recognizing the expertise you hold regarding your life and an approach that celebrates your lived experiences in anti-oppressive ways is where we like to begin with all clients. Holding an intersectional, anti-oppressive, Health at Every Size®, body liberation, approach means we are able to effectively celebrate each part my clients bring to our sessions!

Along with starting from understanding the human, we believe in pulling from interventions as they fit the needs of the client. we utilize the following interventions as they fit:

  • Narrative Therapy

  • Liberation Psychology

  • Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP)

  • Structural Family Therapy

  • Gestalt Therapy

  • Attachment Theory

  • Psychodynamic Therapy

  • Emotionally Focused Therapy

  • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy

  • Intersectional Sex Therapy

What are these bulleted types of therapy? They are different evidence based interventions that encourage openness and transparency on my end while using strategies that center humanity. It is important for me to continually receive training so I can provide the best therapy to my clients.
