Even though we believe in being person-centered, there are a few modalities we want to highlight.

You are the expert of your story. As Trauma therapists, we provide tools to help you move through the Trauma you have faced.

  • What does It look like to start with YOU?

First and foremost, your feelings, experiences, and thoughts around your Trauma are valid.

Secondly, You are the expert of your own story.

Lastly, The experience of trauma is tough and impacts us all in different ways. Even though there are different types of trauma and different severities of trauma, It is so important to create space to heal that starts with knowing how you are showing up to the space and providing knowledge to you on the different ways healing can occur.

  • How will my therapist meet me where I am?

Meeting you where you are starts with assessing what therapeutic modality or style of intervention fits you best. In other words, we are going to figure out what type of therapy will help you put the puzzle pieces of your healing process together. There are few therapeutic modalities we utilize for working through trauma:

    • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR Therapy)

    • Narrative Therapy(especially with resilient minoritized communities)

    • Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP)

Utilizing these approaches allows for us to bring our most authentic selves while utilizing evidence based treatment methods for trauma therapy. Learn more about each modality below!

“Changing the memories that form the way we see ourselves also changes the way we view others. Therefore, our relationships, job performance, what we are willing to do or are able to resist, all move in a positive direction.”

— Francine Shapiro, Getting Past Your Past: Take Control of Your Life with Self Help Techniques from EMDR Therapy

Narrative Therapy for Identity Based Trauma

Narrative Therapy is one of my favorite interventions to use in general with clients. I specifically enjoy this modality with minoritized communities because It allows for clients to be able to work through understanding the stories they have either told about themselves or have embraced in relationships or interactions with others.

By identifying this story(the trauma narrative), clients are able to work on figuring out what is in their control and develop coping mechanisms for working through identity based trauma.

Our trauma can impact our intersectional identities and It is important to have space to heal through this talk therapy method.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

What is EMDR? EMDR is a relatively new therapeutic modality that can be used to treat the results of traumatic experiences including anxiety, anger, guilt, depression, and flashbacks. EMDR is a highly researched form of therapy that focuses on letting your brain lead the work, rather than talk therapy. Our brains, when not overwhelmed with trauma, are able to naturally process traumatic events. However, when our brains are overwhelmed with trauma, the brain may not be able to process as It normally would.

EMDR pulls on the strengths of your brain to start the healing process. Your brain is not broken, It is actually the opposite.

When utilizing EMDR, It is important for me to not rush through this process and guide clients in this space.

We now also offer EMDR Intensives, which are concentrated times that allow clients to fully engage with EMDR Therapy for a shorter period of time. Click the button below to learn more!
