To Breathe & Fully Be.

What does It mean for me to support minoritized communities?

  • To be minoritized means that we are placed in the margins and oppressed based on our racial, gender, sexual orientation or the ways they intersect with one another. We fight to be and show up as our authentic selves.

As a team that represents minoritized identities, we know how important It is to have space to be able to exhale. A space to be able to fully express how you feel without needing to educate those who will never understand.

Being a therapist for our communities means that we can create a space for you to breathe, meaning that you can feel exactly as you need to because the load you carry as a minoritized person makes you resilient.

  • The many therapy interventions we learn about were not created with minoritized individuals with mind.

Because of this, our cultural wealth, or the knowledge we gain from our cultures, are at the forefront of how I interact with clients, meet them where they are, and support them with their goals.

For our owner who is a child of the Ghanaian community, she has learned that her culture is centered around welcoming all in with open arms, supporting those in need, and trusting the wisdom that you have been taught and experienced. Using this cultural wealth humanizes our work together.

It matters because WE ARE.

Along with using our cultural wealth, we utilize culturally informed, person-centered, strengths-based approaches along with strategies like Narrative Therapy with Communities of Color and the LGBTQIA+ community.

As people who hold minoritized and privileged identities, it is important that you are not placed with the responsibility of having to educate me, but instead share what you feel is most needed. It is my job to learn about you and not put you in a place of exhaustion explaining your background.
